Have to go way earlier to her first stuff, back when she was basically putting a lot of her music just on Youtube and Soundcloud and crap.

as for kanye.. I don't know, man. MBDTF seems to be one of the most critically acclaimed albums in hip hop and is loved by fans, but I don't care for it that much. clearly it's one of his better albums, but I prefer late registration, and maybe even college dropout and the graduation. I think I might even prefer yeezus and tlop, even though they are obviously flawed.

I don't really like Kanye either. First two albums good, third album alright, 808s horrible, MBDTF decent. Everything later than that, haven't bothered to listen because I'm still discovering obscure cuts from the 90s and early 2000s. Even the occasional one from the late 80s, like this:

My knowledge of hip-hop only really stretches to whatever I need to stay up-to-speed with the surface-level of the zeitgeist, so basically whatever's in the charts + Kendrick Lamar (although I have yet to hear DAMN.)

Although I have been toying with the idea of getting into clipping. after hearing a couple of singles of theirs that I liked (they weren't from Splendor & Misery, though, I think they were from clppng). A couple of others I recall enjoying over the past few years are:

Power (Rapsody): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3W3QDSET1I
Don't Fall In (Kate Tempest): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aRxIWgFLpA

And say what you want about top 40 hip-hop but I still think this current hit is a banger:

Stir Fry (Migos): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHUxyXZBXY8

I just don't really like trap beats, I'm decidedly a fan of boom-bap shit. I do have some respect for Gucci Mane though.

One of the greatest tracks ever imo. First heard this live on the Chappelle's Show more than ten years ago now.

This is another one of my favorite tracks of all time. I saw Rakim do his part of this live, and it was absolutely insane.

OOh man i'm going through this thread listening to stuff. That Kate Tempest shit has me head nodding. The Migos stir-fry track is okay, I've actually listened to that several times in an effort to "get" it. The beat is real catchy but...otherwise...meh
