If it don't go elsewhere, it goes here.

I could never stay in a hostel. I hate being near people in my sleeping space, and especially hate shared facilities.

I'd typically be willing to spend a bit more for a private room. After a long day touristing having a bed and shower to myself is worth a bit more money to me.

Uuuuuuuusually you can find hostels with private room + bathroom, although it is sort of dependent on the country. Wealthier countries now pretty much all have to cater to bougie soccer parents and college Republicans, so even hostels generally have copious private options. Everywhere I've been in the US, Europe, Hong Kong, had it and were easy to find, places like Malaysia and Vietnam we got private rooms but shared bathrooms, the latter which is always an interesting dynamic in conservative countries.

Wouldn't a hostel with private amenities just be a hotel?

I also tend to go to places with small populations. I don't know if there are hostels anywhere I've been.

@Synsensa some of them increasingly blur the gap. I stayed at a 'hostel' in Miami with a full service bar and restaurant and pool. I guess though there were still options for dorm rooms, which hotels have none of, so in that sense they are more community oriented. Even cheaper ones all offer free breakfast and wifi these days, you're mostly passing up on bed changing and room service. I def though have enjoyed staying in dorms too, met really cool people doing so.

1 US Dollar equals
1.24 Canadian Dollar

At least this is in my favor. So the trip may be cheaper than I was thinking.

Cutlass, have you looked into bed & breakfast places as alternatives?

Go quick. If D'ump crashes the dollar to reduce the real value of his debts international travel could slip out of reach.

The US$ is currently declining, but slowly. I should have a few months.
