Chat thread. Place for casual conversation.

If it don't go elsewhere, it goes here.

Can't afford a vacation house in Belize. :P

I can probably only get 2 weeks in a row. But just ballparking times, seems like I'd need at least 18 days. I'll do some more research and see what I come up with. I might have more time next year.

The beauty of a vacation house in Belize is that you use it one month a year and rent it out the other eleven...so it not only pays for your vacation, it pays for itself.

That might make sense if I wanted to spend a month every year in Belize. But if I ever do go there, once I've seen all the ancient ruins, I'm done with the place. And would be unlikely to ever want to go back.

Talked to someone at work today, I might be able to get more than 2 weeks in a row, but not in July or August. Which I wasn't shooting for anyways. Which means I have to start doing some actual planning and thinking. Which I typically avoid like the plague.

The way things are going a place to bolt to is an attraction in itself.

I can't afford to bolt, and then have no income. I really lack any skill I can hope to use to sustain myself there.

I thought you had construction skills?

I did handyman work. Not actual construction. I can handle a fair range of miscellaneous repairs. I have no actual training at it.

That's a skill that sells anywhere on the planet. The only place people ask "what are your training and certifications" type questions in an endless stream is the US.

I don't know how to turn that into an ongoing business. That's why I went out and got a real job.
